Job Vacancy - Junior Knitwear Designer

Hours: Full time - 35 hours per week

MABLI is a luxury, natural knitwear brand based in Cardiff, founded in 2016. Our collections include baby, child, adult & home. We sell direct to consumer online, as well as wholesale, to stores worldwide. Our aesthetic is ‘slow-fashion’, eclectic, and individual. We are looking to recruit a Junior Designer to join our team for a full-time role at our CF23 studio.

The Role

Working closely with the Creative Director, you will be working across all our collections on the design development process, assisting with the research, ideas, design, technical and organisational processes that are part of bringing a design from initial idea through to finished product.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Creating moodboards and ideas based on a brief, in line with the brand aesthetic
  • Assisting the Creative Director to create designs for all collections, primarily in knitwear but also may include jersey and wovens
  • Work across baby, child and adult product categories
  • Designing colourways and patterns using Adobe Illustrator
  • Creating garment flat drawings and spec details using Adobe Illustrator
  • Assist in creating tech packs for all products, measuring samples, issuing feedback to manufacturers and managing the sample production process
  • Assist the team in preparation for, and participating at photoshoots, tradeshows and pop-up sale events
  • Occasionally travel to suppliers and tradeshows both in the UK and worldwide.

The Candidate

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design, or a related field, or industry equivalent experience
  • Industry experience in fashion or textiles design. (The ideal candidate would be a recent graduate with some internship industry experience, or an existing junior designer with 1 – 2 years experience.)
  • A strong, creative portfolio, demonstrating a synergy in our brand aesthetic and values
  • Creative mindset with a keen eye for detail
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • A strong interest in knitwear design. (Some understanding of knitted construction is advantageous, however is not essential. We would like to hear from you even if your degree has not covered knitwear specifically., as part of this role will involve training in all things knit!)
  • Ability to work under pressure and to key deadlines
  • Excellent knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, with ability to confidently draw CADs.
  • Holding a valid a passport is essential as overseas travel is an important part of this role
